2. Information was fed into the Textilemuseum’s Graphixscan computer to control the laser-cutting of the fabric. Because of it’s size and the way it is operated, this laser-cutter is only capable of carrying out the testsl it could not cut through the pleats without burning the adjoining fabric.
3. A Klieverik Calender heats and presses the fabric, reducing its width from 300cm to 80cm and creating occasionally overlapping pleats.
4. To produce the full hanging with repeated motifs, the operation was moved to an industrial laser-cutting facility. Here a neutral gas was blown over the point of cutting to prevent burning.
5. The freshly cut textile was allowed to hang out under its own weight, which opened up the cuts on the pleats and creating the lacy aesthetics.
